Community crowdfunding · Naya Create keyboard

Help buy the Create firmware. Open-source it for everyone.

Naya, the company behind the Create split keyboard, shut down in August 2026. The keyboard still works, but its firmware is closed source, and we are at the mercy of whoever buys the rights to Naya's digital assets from the bankruptcy curator. That very likely means no new features, no bug fixes, and no path forward. We are pooling money to buy the firmware and bootloader source materials and the right to release it under an open-source license.

No payment is taken today. Payment information is collected and stored securely by Stripe; this site never receives or stores your card number. Your pledge is only charged if a deal is struck with the estate's curator. If we are unable to gain the rights to what we need to open source the firmware and bootloader, nothing is charged and your saved payment method is released.

Payment methods are saved with Stripe using its SetupIntents API. Powered by Stripe.

Why this matters

Community tools for flashing layouts are already in development, but they can only go as far as the closed firmware lets them.

LED behavior, BLE reliability, module features, and native support all need changes at the firmware level.

Buying the firmware from the firm handling the bankruptcy changes that. Once the source is public, the community can maintain it indefinitely: new features, bug fixes, support for future host software, and no dependency on a company that no longer exists.

Pledges are collected with Stripe. Your payment details are stored with Stripe, not with us. Nothing is charged unless the purchase actually goes ahead, so there is no risk of money sitting in limbo if the deal falls through.

Pledges are only charged if a deal is struck with the curator of Naya's estate. Talks are ongoing.

Questions

Why is the goal $6,500?

The curator has ballparked the price at 5,000 euros, roughly $5,700. That could move higher or lower. $6,500 covers it plus Stripe fees and possible taxes. The final cost may land a little above or below that, but it is a realistic goal for now.

Why pledge instead of paying now?

We only want your money if the purchase happens. A pledge saves your payment method with Stripe today and is charged only when the goal is reached and the sale is agreed. If it never happens, nothing is charged.

What does this site store about me?

Only what you type into the pledge form: the amount, your chosen screen name (or that you asked to be anonymous), and your email. Card and bank details go straight from your browser to Stripe. This site never sees them.

What happens if the goal is not reached?

Nothing is charged. We release every saved payment method in Stripe so it can no longer be used, and the campaign is marked closed on this page.

Is this a charitable donation?

No. This is a community purchase, not a registered charity, and pledges are not tax-deductible.

Can I change or withdraw my pledge?

Yes, any time before the campaign is charged. Reach us in the Naya community Discord with the screen name or email you pledged with, and we will release the saved payment method in Stripe.

Why do you need my email?

Stripe sends the receipt there if and when your pledge is charged, and some banks require a one-time confirmation before an off-session charge goes through. We also use it to tell you the outcome of the campaign. It is never shown publicly.
